HSFB: Middleton Tops 300, Scores 3 TDs In Beaufort’s Wild Win

Kyleik Middleton rushed for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns to help Beaufort High School remain undefeated with a wild 46-38 win at Colleton County on Friday.

Cougars quarterback Craig Grant threw for more than 450 yards and six touchdowns, but the Eagles’ defense came up with a stop in the final seconds to hold on.

Beaufort quarterback Jeffrey Smyth threw touchdown passes to Reggie Jones Jr. and Traeshawn Heyward and added a rushing score.

The Eagles led 22-6 after Middleton’s first touchdown run with 5:51 left in the second quarter, but Colleton County scored two quick touchdowns to pull within 22-19 at halftime and took the lead early in the third quarter.

The Cougars had a chance to tie it at 39 with 3:23 left in the game, but they missed the extra point and Middleton sealed it with his third touchdown run.

Beaufort (6-0, 2-0) is off to its best start since winning its first nine games in 2008. The Eagles host Berkeley in a showdown of Region 8-4A title contenders next week.
