River Pender scored two rushing touchdowns and Jake Masters had a touchdown reception and an interception return for a score to lead Thomas Heyward to a 52-23 win over visiting Hilton Head Christian.
The Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead early, but the Rebels turned the momentum when Timber Hexamer sacked Daniel Harrington for a safety and Bobby Payne returned the free kick for a touchdown.
Pender’s first touchdown run put the Rebels ahead 17-10, and Floyd Hargrove returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a score to pull the Eagles within 17-16.
Pender’s second TD run made it 25-16 at halftime, and the Eagles’ offense sputtered without Harrington, who left with an injury late in the second quarter.
Masters’ pick-six and JR Patterson’s touchdown run made it 39-23 after three quarters, and the Rebels broke it open in the fourth on Masters’ 64-yard touchdown reception from Logan Thomas, who capped the scoring with a 1-yard TD run.
John Burke and J.P. Peduzzi each had a touchdown pass and a touchdown reception for the Eagles.
Thomas Heyward (4-2) has won three straight heading into a road game at Williamsburg Academy next week, while HHCA (3-2) hosts Laurence Manning on Friday.
