The PTR Wheelchair Tennis Championships have always been an international affair, and this year’s event has brought players from an event-record 10 countries to Hilton Head Island.
For the first time, Israel and Taiwan will be represented in the event, which rolled out this morning at Chaplin Park Tennis Center and Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort. Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, England, France, Japan, and the United States also are represented in the field, which includes many of the world’s top wheelchair players and is part of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and sanctioned by the USTA and ITF.
A record number of women are in the field, as well, including the University of Alabama wheelchair tennis team.
The event continues through Sunday with play in men’s, women’s, quad, and junior divisions.
