HS Swimming: HHCA Performs Well In Opening Meet

The Hilton Head Christian Academy swim team kicked off its 2017 season with a strong showing at the Palmetto Christian Invitational in Mount Pleasant on Saturday. Both the boys and girls teams placed 4th overall out of 12 teams, with the girls team finishing 1st in the SCISA Class 2A division and boys 2nd in SCISA Class 2A. 

The girls relay teams placed second in the 200 medley (2:06.43) and third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:53.96), while the boys placed second in the 200 free (1:44.64) and third in the 200 medley (1:58.10).

Freshman Sterling Burd was the top scorer for the girls with 14 points, a result of two second-place finishes in the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle. Grace Hilton (11 points), Nika Cummings (3 points) and Audrey Robinson (1 point) also contributed to the Eagles’ team total. 

For the boys team, Sophomore Caleb Eidson led the points tally with 16, including a first-place finish in the 200 IM and second in the 100 backstroke. Also contributing points with strong swims were Theo Sanders (12 points), Guy Annunziata (9 points), Camdyn Masse (2 points), and Wells Sharpe (1 point).

The Eagles’ next meet will be Sept. 7 at 4 p.m., hosted by Hilton Head Island High School at the Island Recreation Center.
