USCB golfer Jonathan Sundstrom shot 2-under-par 70 in the final round to overcome a three-shot deficit and win the Hilton Head Island Amateur Golf Association’s Amateur Championship on Sunday at Legends at Parris Island Golf Club.
Sundstrom started the day three shots behind Furman golfer Matthew Lehman, but he took control with a string of three birdies in five holes on the back nine Sunday.
“I drove it really well all week,” Sundstrom said. “I just needed the putts to start dropping, and today they did.”
The rising senior at USCB finished the 54-hole event at 2-under-par and edged John Patterson by one shot, with Lehman third and fellow Sand Shark Cole Nead in fourth.
Sundstrom earns an automatic berth in next year’s Players Amateur field.
