Hampton County jumped up to No. 5 in Class 2A after a thrilling 27-24 win over Emerald in the Hurricanes’ home opener. The ‘Canes (3-0) are back at home Friday against C.A. Johnson.
Whale Branch climbed three spots into a tie for sixth with Region 7-1A rival Bamberg-Ehrhardt after the Warriors pulled away in the second half for a 44-18 win at Ridgeland. Whale Branch (2-0) hosts Baptist Hill on Friday.
Beaufort (1-2) received votes but did not crack the top 10 in Class 3A after the Eagles rallied for their first win, 20-17 at Hilton Head High, after opening with two losses to Class 5A opponents.
