May River outlasted rival Hilton Head High in a clash of the Lowco’s top boys lacrosse teams on Monday, surging past the Seahawks in the fourth-quarter of a physical and tightly-contested clash to claim an 11-9 road win.
In a game that saw 19 penalties and a Seahawk ejection for an illegal blindside hit, the Sharks outscored the Seahawks 5-2 in the final quarter to claim the victory after trailing 3-1 early but rallying to tie it at halftime and set up a thrilling second half.

Whitt Beebe had three goals and two assists, and Brooks Van Esselstyn added two goals and three assists to lead May River’s attack, while Andrew Dromsky contributed a goal and three assists, Jake Ridgway added two goals and an assist, and Reece Simonson had a goal and an assist. Thomas Raisch and Nathan Kamer each tallied a goal, Jacob Bollinger scooped a team-high six groundballs, and goalie Corbin Wiltse stopped 16 shots on goal to preserve the narrow margin.
“We need to work on the little details of the game, understanding situations, and consistent execution,” May River coach Tom Dyer said. “Happy for the win, our guys get excited for this game and we’re looking forward to being at home on Thursday.”
Max Arnot and Brady Saba led the Seahawks with two goals and an assist each, while Christian Babcock added a goal and two assists, Bill Fielding scored twice, Seth Woods had two assists, and Jackson Olander tallied a goal. Goalie Gavin Dellinger matched his counterpart with 16 saves.
The Sharks (5-1, 3-0) host James Island in another key Class 4A Lower State matchup Thursday, while the Seahawks travel to Beaufort.
