Lowco Hoops Live: Monday, Feb. 21

Don’t be alarmed, but this could be the last heavy hoops night of the season, and we’re starting to use the word heavy a little loosely, to be honest. But we do have three girls teams from the Lowco playing the second round of the SCISA state tournament Monday, as well as the Whale Branch girls taking on top-ranked Military Magnet in SCHSL 1A, and we’ll be tracking the action throughout the night with Lowco Hoops Live.

We’ll post the finals and brief synopses as we get them throughout the night and have full recaps Tuesday.

This is normally premium content for our Patreon supporters, but we’re opening it up to everyone for the playoffs. You can support LowcoSports with a monthly pledge here.

SCHSL 1A girls

Military Magnet 56, Whale Branch 44: The Warriors saw their season end in the Class 1A Lower State semifinals with their third loss to the top-ranked Eagles this season despite 28 points from Kynew Barnwell.

SCISA 2A girls

HHCA 71, Greenwood Christian 30: The Eagles had no trouble with the 18-1 Hawks, building a 28-4 lead after one quarter and coasting into the SCISA 2A semifinals behind 18 points apiece from Abby Peduzzi and Tamya Hutchinson, 14 from Skylar Smith, and nine from Devon Yarde. HHCA will play Palmetto Christian at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sumter Civic Center.

Beaufort Academy 51, Pee Dee Academy 48 (OT): Tahleea Heyward scored 20 points, including five in overtime, and Mary Hanna Hiers knocked down the game-winner to send BA into the SCISA 2A semifinals. The Eagles will face Orangeburg Prep at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sumter Civic Center.

Orangeburg Prep 37, John Paul II 19: The Golden Warriors couldn’t generate enough offense against a strong Indians team, trailing by nine at halftime and watching their season slip away after halftime as OP coach Jan Stoudenmire earned her 700th career win. Brady Mahoney scored 10 points to lead JPII.
