HSGBB: Warriors roll in 2nd round, earn rematch with No. 1 Military Magnet

Whale Branch girls basketball earned another rematch with top-ranked Military Magnet by cruising into the third round of the SCHSL Class 1A playoffs with a 67-46 road win over Estill on Friday. 

Kynew Barnwell poured in 30 points for the second straight playoff game, putting up 24 in the first half to help the Warriors build a 35-20 lead at the break. Layla Love added 13 points for Whale Branch, and Heaven Grant heated up for 11 in the fourth quarter alone to help the Warriors close it out without any trouble. 

Kadejah Smoak scored 17 points, and Jalasia Polite added 13 to lead the Gators, who suffered three losses to the Warriors this season. 

Whale Branch (19-7) will look to avenge two previous losses to Military Magnet when the teams square off Monday in the Lower State semifinals. The Eagles have won their first two playoff games 100-36 over Hemingway and 101-17 over Hannah-Pamplico.
