May River girls basketball was no match for top-seeded South Florence in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs, falling into a big hole early and ending its season with a 63-33 road loss to the Bruins on Wednesday.

South Florence was in control from the start, outscoring the Sharks 27-5 in the first quarter before May River settled in on defense and slowed down the Bruins to get into the halftime with a 20-point deficit.
The fifth-ranked Bruins cranked it back up in the third to push the margin past 30 and cruised to the lopsided win behind 18 points from Albany Wilson, while Jaz Lyde added 16 points, seven rebounds, and five steals, and Katlyn Young-Coleman contributed 12 points and five assists.
Morgan Scott scored 14 points to lead the Sharks in the final installment of her strong sophomore campaign, and freshman point guard Brooke Dalton added seven.
The Sharks wrap up their season with an 8-14 mark, while the Bruins (18-2) will host Hilton Head High in the second round Friday.
