Ridgeland-Hardeeville girls basketball’s remarkable comeback season has at least one more chapter after the Jaguars pulled away in the second half for a 47-37 road win over Kingstree on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
First-year coach Janie Hodges took over a team that did not play last season and won just one game in 2019-20, leading the Jaguars to a playoff appearance and their first postseason win since 2019.
It was a tight defensive struggle in the first half and the teams went to the locker room tied at 18, but RHHS took control after halftime. The Jags opened up a six-point lead in the third quarter and eased away down the stretch to advance.
Sa’nay Patterson poured in 20 points, Janiyah Chaneyfield added 15, and Imani Patterson scored nine to lead the Jaguars (9-12), who travel to Andrew Jackson for a second-round game Friday.
