HSGBB: Cougars can’t keep up with red-hot Hornets

Colleton County girls basketball saw its season come to an end with a 73-28 road loss at Aiken in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs Wednesday.

The eighth-ranked Hornets came out of the gate on fire, storming to a 30-2 lead after one quarter behind 15 first-quarter points from Jazmin McCullough, who finished with a game-high 30. It was 49-8 at halftime, and the Cougars didn’t have enough firepower to mount a comeback.

Makayla Chisolm scored 12 points to lead the Cougars, while Heaven Green added seven. Norriyah Bradley added 13, and Malaysia Jamison scored 12 to complement McCullough’s big night for the Hornets.

The Cougars finish the season with a 12-12 mark, while Aiken (19-6) will host another Region 7-4A foe with James Island traveling to face the Hornets in the second round Friday.
