Hilton Head Prep girls basketball started off a five-game week with a tough 54-48 road loss to Northwood Academy on Monday.

It was the first of three straight game days for the Dolphins, who dug out of a 13-point halftime hole to pull even at 46 with less than three minutes left but couldn’t contain Northwood star Alayah Birch, who finished with 26 points.
“I’m really disappointed with my team tonight,” HHP coach Phillip Hartman said. “I thought we would’ve had more fight after Friday’s tough loss. We can compete with any team but our margin for error is so thin, we can’t recover from poor play.”
The win was No. 100 for coach Ginnell Curtis and the Chargers, who improved to 18-3.
“I’m happy for Coach Curtis and Northwood,” Hartman said. “They fought hard and they had a lot to do with our poor play.”
HHP (13-7, 4-3) is back in action at home Tuesday against Beaufort Academy.
