HSGBB: Golden Warriors hold off Rebels for 3rd straight win

John Paul II girls basketball had to fight to the finish to complete a season sweep of an improving Thomas Heyward team on the road Friday, hanging on for a 37-30 victory.

The Rebels’ defense made it tough on the Golden Warriors at the offensive end, but Cayce Graves racked up 16 points, six rebounds, and four steals in a strong all-around effort, and Maddie Heathcott posted another double-double with 14 points, 12 boards, and six steals to lead JPII to a third straight win.

“Al Boni is doing a great job and his girls are getting better and better,” JPII coach Karen Floyd said. “We struggled to put the ball in the basket, but Cayce Graves’ tenacity combined with Maddie Heathcott’s perfect foul shooting helped seal the win.”

Heathcott went 8-of-8 from the foul line, helping the Golden Warriors close it out, and Brenna Frank gave JPII a boost off the bench with four points and three steals.

Keleigh Bowers collected 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists to lead the Rebels, while Macy Taylor added eight points.
