HSGBB: Wilson’s triple-double highlights Creek’s region win

Battery Creek girls basketball star Kiara Wilson had a night to remember Tuesday inside the Palace, posting her first career triple-double to lead the Dolphins to a 41-23 home win over Academic Magnet.

Wilson’s triple-double included 19 points, 12 steals, and 10 rebounds in a dominant performance. Sophia Felix was just two points shy of a double-double with eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds, Ashante Shaw added seven points with three boards and three steals, and Carolina Alvarez was a force on the glass, collecting 12 caroms for Creek.

Wilson drained an 11-footer to open the scoring for BC and the Dolphins kept the pressure on the Raptors throughout the first quarter. Creek found consistency from inside 10 feet as both Wilson and Felix found the bucket while on the run.

Battery Creek’s defense locked down Academic Magnet during the second frame, keeping the Raptors off the board through the first five minutes. The Dolphins’ offense, however, couldn’t match its defense, only scoring four points during the quarter, two coming from the charity stripe and the other two on a Felix jumper from the wing.

Following the break, the Dolphins found the groove offensively, led by Wilson’s seven points. Creek started pulling further away, outscoring the Raptors to 18-4 during the third.

Wilson’s stellar night continued in the fourth as she started the quarter off with her 10th steal and completed the triple-double by picking up a defensive board to help the Dolphins ice the game and move to 3-2 in the region.

Battery Creek (7-10, 3-2) will travel to Hanahan on Friday. In the last meeting earlier this month, the Dolphins defeated the Hawks 37-25.
