Hilton Head Prep girls basketball bounced back Wednesday with a clinical defensive performance, downing visiting Colleton Prep 56-16.
The Dolphins got out to a fast start behind their swarming full-court pressure, opening the game on a 7-0 run before extending the lead to 29-2. Hilton Head Prep rode the hot shooting of freshman Courtney Campbell and a potent transition game to go up 43-6 at the break.
After cementing their big lead, the Dolphin starters turned it over to the bench as eight different players got on the scoreboard.
Campbell was outstanding at both ends of the court, scoring a team-high 17 points while leading a standout defensive effort. Ella Clark scored 11 points, Haylee Hopman tallied eight, and both Annie Braun and Avery Brothers added six each. It was a memorable night for Harper Hedden and Ting Zhang, who both recorded their first points at the varsity level.
Hilton Head Prep (7-5, 2-1) is back in action Thursday in a non-region contest at Ashley Hall. Colleton Prep (1-10, 1-3) travels to Holy Trinity on Friday.
