Beaufort Academy boys basketball took down another solid public school squad Tuesday, holding off Hanahan for a 72-63 win to advance to the title game of the Cougar Classic in Walterboro.

Sully Gay had another big night for BA with 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting along with six rebounds and two assists, and freshman big man Amarion Wilson collected 19 points and 10 boards to power the Eagles to their seventh straight win.
Zeke Gonzalez added 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals in another solid all-around showing for BA, and Braydon Dineen contributed 11 points, six boards, three assists, and four steals.
The Hawks outshot the Eagles 52 percent to 44.8 percent, but BA dominated inside, winning the rebounding battle 42-28 and outscoring Hanahan 44-22 in the paint.
”When we fly around on defense and share the ball, we usually deserve to win,” BA coach Nick Field said. “Gavin Midyette gave us some really good minutes and grabbed some very important rebounds.”
BA (15-3) will face Branchville in the Cougar Classic championship game Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets were slated to play host Colleton County on Tuesday, but the game was not contested after Cougars coach Matt Mullins tested positive for COVID-19.
All players and coaches who were close contacts or exhibited symptoms have quarantined, and the Cougars will take on Hanahan on Wednesday with a slim roster of players who have cleared protocol.
