HSBBB: Cougars fall short in OT battle vs. Hawks

Colleton County boys basketball came up short in a nail-biter Wednesday, falling 54-53 in overtime at Hanahan.

It was a back-and-forth affair all the way through, as the Hawks jumped out to a 9-8 lead before the Cougars went up 21-20 at halftime. The two squads continued to battle hard after the break, and neither side could pull away.

Colleton County rallied from a one-point deficit after the third quarter to force overtime, but Hanahan pulled out the victory with a 7-6 edge in the extra period.

Colleton’s Deshaun Blocker put up a terrific showing in the tough defeat, leading all scorers with 22 points. Brian Hamilton racked up 12 points, and Mykeem Gant added 11 for the Cougars.

Colleton County (4-4, 0-1) gets back into region play Friday with a road matchup at Lucy Beckham.
