May River girls basketball had visiting Effingham County on the ropes Saturday, but the Sharks couldn’t complete the season sweep of the Rebels, who rallied for a 45-34 road win.
The Sharks played their typical stingy defense early on, leading 9-4 after one quarter and clinging to a 21-18 advantage at halftime. It was still a three-point Sharks lead going to the fourth, but the Rebels outscored May River 17-3 in the final period.
Morgan Scott scored 19 points to lead the Sharks. Kyiana Jordan had 12 points, and Ronesha Goss and Jana Taylor added 11 each for Effingham.
May River (3-4) opens Region 7-4A play at home against Colleton County on Tuesday.
