HSBBB: Cougars cruise past Creek to get back on track

Colleton County boys basketball didn’t waste any time getting back on track after its first loss of the season, bouncing back Saturday with a 71-40 road win over Battery Creek at the Palace.

Adam Buckner and Deshawn McNeil each scored 15 points, and Deshaun Blocker added 14 to lead a balanced Cougars attack that saw eight players reach the scoring column. Tyshawn Hundley added nine points, and Nick Williams had eight for Colleton.

Battery Creek’s Noah Northway put up 12 points to go along with three steals, and Donyae Brown put up seven points in the loss.

Northway, Te’Shaun Heyward and Will White all contributed to a strong first quarter for Creek as each put points on the board. Colleton spread the ball around equally in the first, as well, taking a 12-8 lead after one. The Cougars came out firing in the second, putting up 19 points to open up a 31-16 halftime advantage.

Quatrell Livingston came off the bench and brought a spark for the Dolphins, scoring four points in just over four minutes of play in the quarter, but Creek’s offense struggled through the remainder of the quarter and the Cougars went into the break up 15.

Battery Creek couldn’t find the basket in the third, only scoring nine points while Buckner put up eight of his team’s 17. The Dolphins tried to break the Cougars’ press, but Colleton was just too much for Creek, running away with the game.

Colleton (2-1) hosts Academic Magnet on Wednesday. Battery Creek (0-3) will be back in action Tuesday, hosting Bluffton.
