COLUMBIA — Beaufort High School’s quest for its first state football title since 1945 ended with a 41-7 loss to a powerhouse South Pointe squad Thursday night at Benedict College.
Zavieon McCrorey passed for 344 yards and rushed for 64 yards and two TDs as the Stallions rolled up 566 total yards and used a dominant defensive effort to stifle a dangerous Beaufort offense.

Jaquan Thompson also scored twice on the ground and Caleb Sims added a rushing touchdown for the Stallions, who won their seventh state title and their first under coach DeVonte Holloman. Holloman spent four seasons at Beaufort High, including a stint as the head coach in 2018.
The Eagles’ comeback hopes took a hit when senior stars Amariee Morris and Tyler Haley left the game with injuries in the second half, but sophomore Caleb Ulmer gave Beaufort a spark with 95 yards on 10 carries, including a 35-yard touchdown run to avoid the shutout.
