HSBBB: Hennum powers Seahawks past shorthanded Red Raiders

Josh Hennum poured in 22 points including 16 in the third quarter, and Hilton Head High’s boys downed a shorthanded Bamberg-Ehrhardt squad 77-26 on Monday to advance to the championship game of the Earl Campbell Preseason Tournament at Whale Branch Early College High School.

The Seahawks built a 21-7 first-quarter lead on the strength of Alex Smith’s perfect 6-for-6 frame at the free-throw line. Hilton Head extended the margin to 35-14 at halftime before Hennum caught fire for 16 third-quarter points including a trio of three-pointers to blow it open. With Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s football team advancing to the Class 1A Lower State final, the Red Raiders were without the majority of their varsity players.

Nate Rohr scored 11 points for the Seahawks, Smith notched 10 points while sinking all eight of his foul shots, and both Karyce Campbell and Jourdin Nelson-Davis added eight points apiece.

Hilton Head High (2-0) takes on Region 7-4A opponent May River in Tuesday’s championship game.
