HSFB: Sneed returns, but Seahawks stumble vs. Hornets

Hilton Head High star Jaylen Sneed returned from a shoulder injury to suit up for the Seahawks one last time, but his contributions on both sides of the ball weren’t enough for HHIHS to overcome a big early deficit in a 25-6 loss at Aiken on Friday in the first round of the SCHSL Class 4A playoffs.

Sneed returned after missing last week’s home finale against May River and picked off a pass and ran for a second-half touchdown, but the Seahawks couldn’t claw out of a 23-0 hole.

After an early Seahawk turnover, Aiken cashed in for a 7-0 lead, and the Hornets added a blocked punt for a score and a field goal for a 16-0 halftime advantage. An interception returned for a touchdown added to the Aiken lead after halftime before Sneed got the Seahawks on the board with a long TD run.

Aiken capped off a terrific defensive showing with a safety for the final margin.

The Seahawks finish the season with a 3-7 mark, while the Hornets (4-7) will travel to top-ranked Myrtle Beach next week.
