HSFB: HHCA hammers Bobcats in state title rematch

The rematch of last year’s SCISA 2A title bout was an early TKO for the defending champs.

Jace Blackshear threw a pair of touchdown passes, Joseph Robinson scored three times, and Riley Shinn took two interceptions back for touchdowns in the first half as Hilton Head Christian Academy rolled to a 47-0 rout of Carolina Academy on Friday to open its bid for a second straight title.

The Eagles wasted little time getting their offense going, even under nasty weather conditions, as Blackshear and Robinson hooked up for a 65-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring. Shinn got in on the action with his first pick 6 of the night to make it 13-0, and a Matthew Scarpa blocked punt set up Robinson for a 3-yard TD run.

Then Blackshear got the Bulldog involved, hitting Jackson Lanier for a 38-yard TD pass, and Wells Sharp’s interception set up Robinson’s third touchdown of the night, another 3-yard run to make it 33-0. Shinn’s second pick 6 of the night closed out the half with HHCA up 40-0, and Morgan Bedenbaugh added a 10-yard TD run after the break to cap the scoring.

HHCA’s defense turned in another dominant performance, blanking the Bobcats for their second straight shutout. The Eagles (10-0) will face a tougher test in next week’s semifinals, hosting Pee Dee Academy (9-1) in a matchup of perennial powers. HHCA routed Pee Dee 63-14 in last year’s semifinals.
