HSFB: Golden Warriors gash Chargers for region win

John Paul II knew it couldn’t let a win-hungry Northwood Academy team hang around and gain confidence Friday night in Hardeeville, and the Golden Warriors didn’t afford the Chargers the opportunity.

JPII raced out to a four-touchdown lead after the first quarter and rolled to a 56-0 victory over the visiting Chargers to improve to 2-0 in SCISA Region 1-2A play. The Golden Warriors led 29-0 after the first quarter and 49-0 at halftime before letting off the gas.

Christian Tilton had a big game at quarterback for the Golden Warriors, rushing five times for 106 yards and two touchdowns and completing all four of his passes for 56 yards and two more scores. Mark Knight found the end zone twice, taking his only carry of the night 60 yards for a score and catching two passes for 51 yards and a TD.

Jackson Ogden rushed for 65 yards on five carries, Peter Hughes added 53 yards and two TDs on five carries, and Michael Carbone (rushing) and Evan Slusne (receiving) also added TDs.

Michael Carbone led a dominant JPII defense with 10 tackles (two for loss), and Kohl Woodham added six tackles with three behind the line of scrimmage. Sebastian Slusne had eight tackles, and Hughes and Tony Hill each had seven stops.

JPII (2-3, 2-0) hosts undefeated Hilton Head Christian Academy on Thursday.
