HSVB: JPII fights off Mighty Lions for region sweep

John Paul II volleyball held off a strong challenge from host Holy Trinity on Tuesday, sweeping the Mighty Lions in three competitive sets for a region win.

The Golden Warriors racked up 15 aces to help give them an edge in a 25-23, 25-20, 25-23 victory. Lili Lutheran led the way with six aces, while Emily O’Sullivan added four, and Sadie Moulton had three. 

JPII had a good night on the front row, as well, as Caroline Gilmour collected six kills and O’Sullivan added four, with Cayce Graves dishing out 15 assists. 

Holy Trinity’s front line held its own, as Emily Ruth Wilson racked up eight kills and three blocks and Lilly Cooler contributed eight kills and three aces. Rachel Cain anchored the Lions’ defense with 28 digs along with four aces, while Grace Brubeck dished out 10 assists and Eliza Gaillard had four blocks.

JPII (9-4, 3-4) travels to Bridges Prep on Thursday. Holy Trinity (5-11-1, 0-6) hosts Thomas Heyward for another region matchup Wednesday.
