Beaufort Academy volleyball got off to a strong start and held off a rally from visiting Hilton Head Prep for a thrilling 3-2 win Tuesday in region play.
The Eagles bounced back from a 3-0 loss at Hilton Head Christian Academy to come out on fire against the Dolphins, winning the first set 25-21 before prevailing 25-16 in the second. HHP rallied to win the next two sets by identical 25-23 scores, but BA regained control with a 15-10 win in the final set to seal a huge region victory.
Margaret Hiers posted a monster line for BA with a team-high 16 kills along with 19 digs, nine assists, and two aces, while Claire Tumlin dished out 24 assists and added nine kills, 14 digs, and two aces. Maddie Nelson had a big night in the middle with 12 kills, five blocks, and two aces, while Mary Hanna Hiers picked up an incredible 36 digs, and Olivia Dinkins had seven aces and seven digs.
Anna Scott had a big game to keep the Dolphins in it, racking up 14 kills and five blocks, and Ashley Wilmot had 10 kills and 19 digs in a strong all-around effort. Haylee Hopman collected 20 digs and eight kills, while Ella Clark dished out 25 assists, and Gabby Bettez added 15 assists and a team-high seven aces.
BA (5-1, 3-1) has a week off before hosting Thomas Heyward for a region match Tuesday. HHP (8-3, 2-1) hosts Hilton Head Christian Academy for a pivotal region match Wednesday.
