The Bluffton American All-Stars rallied for a 10-3 win over Midland on Wednesday in Union to move within one win of the 2021 Dixie Youth Baseball Minors (10U) state championship.
Bluffton found itself in an early hole after Midland pushed across two runs in the first, but starter Finn Boyles settled in and struck out eight over four innings to give the bats time to heat up.
The Lowco squad finally plated a run in the third, when Truman Jarrett squeezed home Charlie Nelson, and Bluffton erupted for four runs in the fourth to take control. Three straight hits from Nicholas Carpenter, Nic Farrugia, and Henry Numssen tied it up, and Noah Sepulveda’s run-scoring triple capped off a big inning to make it 5-2.

Numssen drove in another run in the fifth, and Zack Szypczak and Austin Broene followed with two-run knocks to break it open. Numssen then struck out the side in the fifth and sat down the first two in the sixth before hitting his pitch count, and Szypczak came on to record the final out and seal the win.
Boyles was able to shake off a rocky start to strike out eight and limit the damage to two runs, two hits, and four walks over four strong innings for the win, and Numssen struck out five in 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run and two hits. Szypczak closed out the second straight game, needing only two pitches to get out of the jam.
Farrugia continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with a double, and Numssen was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Szypczak and Broene each drove in a pair of runs, and Sepulveda added an RBI triple two nights after smacking an inside-the-park homer.
Bluffton American will face Moncks Corner at 10 a.m. Thursday in a rematch of an 8-7 thriller Tuesday. Bluffton needs just one win in two games to claim the state title and advance to the 2021 Dixie Youth Baseball World Series from Aug. 7-12 in Laurel, Mississippi.
