Hilton Head Island’s All-Stars continued their impressive pitching prowess Sunday, defeating Goose Creek 6-1 to stay unbeaten at the 2021 Dixie Youth Baseball Ozone (12U) state tournament in Moncks Corner.
For the second straight game, Phoenix Shapiro and Alan Wolf dazzled on the mound, surrendering just one hit apiece while combining for six strikeouts.

Goose Creek opened up the scoring with a run in the top half of the first, but Hilton Head answered right away with a pair of Ty Eanes and Jackson Reilley singles setting up a Brandon Espinoza RBI-groundout to even the contest at 1. It was all Hilton Head from that point on, as the Lowco squad added three runs in the third thanks to a trio of inning-opening singles before tacking on two more in the bottom of the fifth. Wolf then closed out his own win in the top of the sixth, working around a pair of walks to seal the victory.
The victorious pitcher dominated the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing no runs and just one hit while picking up four strikeouts. Shapiro set the tone on the mound and at the plate, striking out two batters and going 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Will Chapman came up clutch in his lone at bat, finishing 1-for-1 with a single and an RBI.
With the victory, Hilton Head Island earned a day off on Monday and will return to action Tuesday at 8 p.m. against the winner of Starr-Iva and Midland.
