Thomas Heyward baseball took a five-run lead to the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t hang on Wednesday, falling 11-10 at Oakbrook Prep in an elimination game in the SCISA 2A playoffs.
The Knights plated four runs in the first before THA starter Zane Wilson settled in and limited Oakbrook to one run over the next five frames while the Rebels chipped away at the deficit.
THA scored single runs in the second and third before plating two each in the fourth and fifth to take a 6-4 lead. The Knights scored a run in the fifth to trim the margin to one run, but the Rebels answered with a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to open up a 10-5 advantage.
Things fell apart in the bottom of the seventh, though, as THA had to turn to the bullpen and Oakbrook used four hits, four walks, and a Rebel error to spark the winning rally.
Ayden Lassiter led the Rebels at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs, while Carter Zareva was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and scored twice. Dietrich Shuford went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs in the leadoff spot, and Dylan Boyles was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
The Rebels finish the season with a 10-9 record.
