HS BSB: CPA rallies to force extras but drops heartbreaker in playoff finale

Colleton Prep baseball scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep its season alive, but the War Hawks dropped an 8-7 heartbreaker in eight innings against visiting Greenwood Christian on Wednesday to bow out of the SCISA 2A playoffs. 

The Hawks opened the scoring with two runs in the first, but the War Hawks answered with three in the bottom half and extended the margin to 4-2 with a run in the third. Greenwood broke through for three in the fifth to take the lead and tacked on two more in the seventh before CPA rallied for three in the bottom half to force extras.

Greenwood strung together a walk and a pair of singles to plate the go-ahead run in the eighth, and the War Hawks left two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the inning to see their season come to an end.

Huiet Rowe had a big game at the plate for CPA, going 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Kyle Hooker was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, Pete Peters went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice from the leadoff spot, and Carter Smoak added an RBI knock. 

The War Hawks finish the season with an 11-10 record.
