HS BSB: Big fifth inning sinks War Hawks in playoff opener

Colleton Prep baseball couldn’t find the offense on the road in its SCISA 2A playoff opener Tuesday, falling 12-2 against Lee Academy.

After a pitching duel in the first two innings, the Cavaliers broke through with three runs in the bottom of the third. Colleton Prep answered right back, plating a pair in the top of the fourth on a two-run single from Cole Gulotti to cut the deficit to just one.

But the War Hawks couldn’t draw any closer, and Lee Academy found its groove in the bottom of the fifth with a nine-spot to end the game via run-rule.

Gulotti put together a strong performance at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a pair of runs driven in while Colton Daniels and Kyle Hooker added a hit each.

Colleton Prep (11-9) looks to keep its season alive Wednesday in a home elimination game against Greenwood Christian.
