Three Sharks went deep and May River softball used a late surge Tuesday to notch an impressive 18-3 road victory over Hilton Head High and stay unbeaten in Region 7-4A play.
Both sides started off the first inning with a pair of runs, but the Sharks took control with four in the third before exploding late for three in the sixth and a nine-run outburst in the seventh to cap off the blowout win.
Macey Dowe, Giovana Rodriguez, and Gabby Ximenez each belted a home run to lead the superb performance. Dowe put up an incredible line, going 4-for-5 with a homer and two doubles. Rodriguez and Ximenez did it all for the Sharks, combining for five hits and five RBIs while shutting down the Seahawks on the mound.
Rodriguez picked up six strikeouts in three innings, and Ximenez spun a hitless final four frames while striking out five.
Reagan Marchant continued her standout season for Hilton Head, smacking a homer and drawing three walks.
May River (10-6, 7-0) hosts Berkeley for a non-region contest on Friday.
Hilton Head (0-9, 0-8) travels to Beaufort on Wednesday.
