May River softball finished Thursday what it started Wednesday, completing a 20-4 pounding of Beaufort High to sweep the two-game Region 7-4A series with the Eagles.
The host Sharks plated 13 runs in the first inning and had a commanding lead when play was suspended due to thunderstorms Wednesday night. May River picked up where it left off the next evening, ending the game early via mercy rule.
Casey Laing had another monster game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, two triples, and seven RBIs to lead May River’s potent offense. Ruthie Roman was 2-for-2 with a homer and four RBIs, and Annamarie Wynne added two hits, including a homer. Reilly Wake was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, and four runs, Giovana Rodriguez added two hits, two RBIs, and three runs, and Caroline Sapochak was 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored three runs.
Carleigh Coolong had an RBI triple and scored a run, and Kylie Rast and Maddie Sanchez each added a hit and a run for the Eagles.
Rodriguez was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in a three-inning complete game.
The Sharks (8-3, 6-0) and Eagles (2-5, 0-4) are back in action at a tournament in Aiken this weekend.
