Hilton Head Prep’s girls soccer team has pulled off some impressive wins during its 10-game winning streak, but none came with bigger bragging rights than the Dolphins’ latest triumph.
Vanderbilt commit Shania Diaz gave the Dolphins a first-half lead, Sami Heginbottom made it stand up with nine saves, and Ansleigh Crenshaw sealed the win with a late goal to give Hilton Head Prep a hard-fought 2-0 win over Hilton Head High in a cross-island clash Thursday.
Quality scoring chances were hard to come by with two outstanding defensive teams duking it out, but Sadie Callen sent a through ball that Diaz was able to finish off for the first goal of the game, and the Dolphins’ defensive line was able to ensure that was enough. Ashlyn Parsick, Haley Majors, Bailey Sullivan, Haylee Hopman, and Alexis Terry anchored the backfield, and Heginbottom was up to the task of preserving the clean sheet against a potent Seahawks side.
The Seahawks were still within striking distance until the final 10 minutes, though, when Crenshaw buried one in the back of the net to seal the rivalry win for Prep.
HHP (10-1) travels to Charleston for a test against Ashley Hall on Tuesday.
HHIHS (4-4) travels to Colleton County for a Region 7-4A matchup Wednesday.
