HS BLAX: Sharks hold off Seahawks for season sweep

May River boys lacrosse finished off a season sweep of region rival Hilton Head High with a hard-fought 13-11 road win Monday.

Rob Gadomski scored five goals and added an assist, and Brooks van Esselstyn had four goals, one assist, and four groundballs in his second game since returning from injury to lead the way for the Sharks. 

May River led 8-6 at halftime and held off the Seahawks in a back-and-forth battle to the finish. Hudson Kramer added a hat trick, and Reece Simonson had two assists and a team-high seven groundballs for the Sharks.

Eli Hall also had a solid night for the Sharks, winning 18-of-23 faceoffs to go along with a goal and five groundballs. Corbin Wiltse made eight saves on 14 shots, and Hayden Borth saved four of nine shots in goal for May River.

Hilton Head High stats were not available at the time of publication.

The Sharks (8-2, 5-1) host James Island for a key matchup Thursday. The Trojans edged May River 9-7 at The Backyard on March 8.

The Seahawks (2-4, 2-3) host James Island on Tuesday.
