John Paul II boys soccer bounced back strong from its first loss of the season, smashing visiting Colleton Prep 9-0 in a region match Monday.
With assistant coach Louise Sanders standing in for head coach Josh Fox, the Golden Warriors were sharp from the opening whistle, showing off their ball-possession prowess and building a big early lead that allowed their younger players to gain valuable playing time.
The reserves did much of the heavy lifting, as William Rooney scored twice, Finn Mahoney scored once and assisted on two goals, and Manny Hurtado and Trenton LaFountain each had a goal and an assist. Chris Orta, Austin Floyd, Anthony Hill, and Jackson Ogden also scored, and Kelon Reynolds had an assist.
Austin O’Quinn recorded the clean sheet in goal for JPII.
JPII (4-1, 2-0) hosts Beaufort High in a rematch of its lone defeat on Friday.
