HS GSOC: Sharks outmuscle Golden Warriors

May River girls soccer proved too much for John Paul II to handle Monday night, as the Sharks controlled possession throughout the night and blanked the visiting Golden Warriors 5-0.

Kylie Nelson wasted no time setting the tone for the Sharks, scoring the first goal within the first minute of play. The Warriors then gathered themselves and held off May River for a chunk of the first half, until Morgan Hewes gathered a rebound and punched it in the net to double the advantage.

Abby White finished off the first half scoring for the Sharks with a beautiful shot, and senior captain Ella DiSario deflected a shot off the JPII keeper to make it 4-0 in the second half. Nelson finished what she started by creating a one-on-one in a crowded goal box for the fifth score.

Despite the loss, JPII coach Brian Quinty was pleased with his team’s defensive effort and highlighted the play of Gin White and Alondra Hurtado, in particular.

May River (2-0) travels to Calvary Day School in Savannah on Friday.

JPII (1-2) hosts Hilton Head Christian Academy on Thursday.
