GOLF: Thomas on top, Sand Sharks 2nd heading into final round at Oldfield

The USCB men’s golf team finds itself in second place after the first 36 holes of the Oldfield Classic, and the Sand Sharks will try to make up their five-shot deficit and overtake leader Coastal Georgia in Tuesday’s final round.

USCB shot a combined 4-over 580 (295-285) on Monday and is one of three teams in position to claim the title Tuesday. Coastal Georgia (289-286) leads the way, with the Sand Sharks five shots back and Point (292-289) one behind host USCB.

Sand Sharks star Jacob Thomas is in position to claim some hardware of his own after shooting a 7-under 139 (73-66). The junior has a one-stroke lead over teammate Dawson Peters and Dalton State’s Ben Rebne. Peters also performed exceptionally in Monday’s 36 holes of play. The Iowa native recorded a 4-under 138 (71-69) to sit one off his teammate’s lead.

The other Sand Shark contributions came from Skyler Sicoli (71-78, T15),  Christopher Hagenauer (73-79, T21), and Jonas Demant (80-86, T43).

The Sand Sharks look to keep the hardware at home Tuesday. The players are set to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
