John Paul II baseball opened its season with an 8-1 loss at Patrick Henry on Thursday.
JPII’s Hayden Jennings held down the Patriots for three innings, but Patrick Henry broke it open with a five-run fourth, turning 1-0 lead into a huge advantage, then tacked on two more in the fifth.

Peter Hughes went 2-for-4 and drove in the lone run for the Golden Warriors, plating Nate McDonough in the seventh. Jennings, Landry Donath, Rance Jennings, Tripp Currier, and McDonough each had a hit for JPII.
JPII (0-1) travels to Beaufort Academy for a region game at 6 p.m. Monday.
