HSBSB: Hurricanes hold HHCA hitless in season opener

Hilton Head Christian Academy’s baseball season got off to a rough start Tuesday, as the Eagles were no-hit in a 11-1 loss to First Baptist out of Charleston.

The Hurricanes’ pitching staff was lights-out, as three pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts and two walks over six innings.

Michael Zoodsma drew a pair of walks and Jackson Lanier was twice hit by a pitch, but the Eagles had a hard time getting people on base otherwise. HHCA finally got on the board in the sixth, thanks to a pair of First Baptist errors.

Three HHCA pitchers — James Crosby, Jacob Eddy, and Walker Mikkelson — combined for 10 strikeouts, allowing six hits and four walks, but they were hurt by four hit-by-pitches and four critical errors that led to nine unearned runs.

The Eagles (0-1) travel to face the Coastal Hurricanes on Thursday.
