Beaufort Academy’s boys came back from a double-digit deficit to stun Colleton Prep 62-58 on Saturday to pick up an elusive road win and complete the sweep of the War Hawks.
Ben VanHise dropped 23 points, backing up the 24 he scored the night before, and Sully Gay matched his output from a night earlier with 12.
It was another massive effort on the boards for the Eagles, who outrebounded the War Hawks 44-28. Braxton Tolbert grabbed 10 rebounds, and VanHise grabbed nine.

Colleton Prep’s Naz Johnson was on fire hitting, pouring in 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting and finishing 6-of-11 from three-point range while grabbing eight boards. Melvin Teal Jr. added 16 points, 14 rebounds and four assists for the War Hawks, who led 45-36 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
It was all BA from there.
The Eagles used a multitude of defensive stops and a hot offense to go on a 26-11 run from that point to take the win from CPA.
“We knew going into tonight that it was going to be difficult to get the win on their home floor,” BA coach Bobby Smith said. “But we got it done, I’m proud of my guys.”
And he should be. This may have been BA’s grittiest win of the season. The Eagles have struggled on the road, especially when they fall behind.
They had to overcome two near double-digit deficits at multiple points in the game, but they battled back every time against a steadily-improving Colleton Prep squad.
