Hilton Head High’s girls carried the momentum from Wednesday night’s thriller into their rematch with James Island in the first round of the Region 7-4A tournament, as Lynda Young led the Seahawks to a 45-38 victory over the visiting Trojans on Friday.
Young, who scored the winning basket with 4 seconds left in Wednesday’s regular-season finale, led all scorers with 21 points. Janiya Ferebee added 12 for the Seahawks.
The Trojans jumped out to an early lead on the heels of Andrea Duncan, who finished with 17 points. However, a dominant second quarter gave the Seahawks a 27-18 lead going into the half. The Seahawks held onto their lead in a highly competitive second half to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Hilton Head (4-7, 2-3) will travel to Bluffton (9-2,9-0) to face the No. 1 seed Bobcats in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Monday.
