After two tough losses following a long hiatus, Beaufort Academy’s boys got back on track Wednesday, defeating visiting Hilton Head Christian Academy 49-38.
BA had three players in double figures, as Braxton Tolbert poured in 15 points and Ben Frey and Sully Gay added 10 apiece.

Malachi Rodriguez scored eight of his own, including a monstrous posterizing slam over HHCA defenders, and Tolbert contributed a big dunk of his own to help cement the victory for BA.
Isaiah Anderson dropped in 11 points for HHCA. JP Peduzzi and Brady Bagenstose each added eight.
The two teams traded runs in the first half, which lead to the game being knotted up at 22 at halftime. In the third quarter it seemed to be heading in the same direction with the home Eagles starting on a 6-0 run and the visiting Eagles following up with a 4-0 run of their own to make it 28-26 midway through the third.
That’s as close as they would get for the rest of the game.
Every once and a while the visiting Eagles would make a push, but it was BA’s night. BA answered with a 21-10 run to close out the game. The Eagles had not tasted victory in 37 days, and coach Bobby Smith said they were not about to let another slip away like it did against John Paul the night before.
“The key to the game was for us to play hard, and play with enthusiasm,” Smith said. “It was a team effort.”
Beaufort Academy (7-7, 1-2) travels to Hilton Head Christian (5-10, 2-6) on Saturday for a rematch at the Island Recreation Center.
