HSGBB: Third-quarter lapse downs Dolphins at St. Andrew’s

Hilton Head Prep’s girls couldn’t overcome a defensive lapse in the third quarter Wednesday at St. Andrew’s, coming up short in a fourth-quarter flurry and falling 39-36 in a non-region matchup.

The Dolphins led 19-16 at halftime, but the Lions took charge in the third quarter, outscoring HHP 18-5 to open up a double-digit lead.

Prep battled back with a strong defensive effort in the fourth quarter, limiting the Lions to five points, but couldn’t close the gap.

Haylee Hopman had eight points and five steals to lead a balanced scoring effort, while Ella Clark added seven points and five assists, Annie Braun scored seven points, Avery Brothers had seven points and four steals, and Emma Moore contributed six points and 12 rebounds.

HHP (3-5) hosts rival Hilton Head Christian Academy on Friday.
