LowcoSports will ramp up its local golf coverage in 2021 with the addition of Brian Rietveld to #TeamLowco.
Rietveld is a former golf coach at Hilton Head Island High School and May River High School and a teacher at Bluffton Middle School, and a standout high school golfer at Lugoff-Elgin High School. He has a passion for the sport and wants to help increase our coverage of local golfers, especially juniors, and tournaments.

“Golf is obviously a huge part of the Lowcountry sports scene,” LowcoSports founder and president Justin Jarrett said. “And while we have provided coverage of high school and junior golf since our launch in June 2017, there is plenty of room to expand our coverage and do a better job of keeping tabs on our local golfers, whether they’re competing on the PGA Tour, the AJGA circuit, or SCGA, SCWGA, and SCJGA events.”
Some of the potential features LowcoSports hopes to add to its golf coverage in the coming months include a tour tracker keeping tabs on locals playing professionally, a college spotlight highlighting golfers from the Lowco who are playing collegiately, and more reporting on amateur and junior golf events from around the area, state, and region. A podcast focused on the Lowco golf scene is also on the table.
“We’re proud of the multimedia content we’ve provided for local sports fans, especially when it comes to high school sports,” Jarrett said. “We can’t wait to begin producing the same quality of content to highlight our local golfers and provide Lowco golf fans with an outlet for local golf news and features.”
Rietveld’s addition also will help enhance LowcoSports’ coverage of the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing, as well as other local events such as the Sea Pines Junior Heritage in February and the Jimmy Self Invitational in August.
