HSWR: Sharks take down Dolphins in season opener

May River’s wrestlers picked up where they left off during last year’s run to the third round of the Class 3A playoffs Wednesday, opening their season with a 65-9 rout at Battery Creek.

Defending state champions Isham Peace and Eli Hall were among eight Sharks who won by pin, along with Isaiah Wysong, EJ Seman, Santiago Rueda, Jaxon Merriwether, Anthony Nelsen, and Brady Gillespie also scoring falls.

Gabe Juarez won by technical fall, and Tanon Mankowski and Wyatt Banfield won by forfeit for the Sharks.

Elmer Linares won by pin, and Dreshaun Brown earned a decision for the Dolphins.

The Sharks are back in action Saturday at River Bluff, while the Dolphins’ next action will be Jan. 9, when they host Hilton Head High and John Paul II.
