HSBBB: Sharks fall short in shootout at Pinewood

May River’s boys kept pace with SCISA power Pinewood Prep all night and made a second-half push before falling 81-78 on the road Tuesday.

Gavin Blocker poured in 20 points to lead four Sharks in double figures, while James Layman added 18, Garvin Douglas had 15, and Steffin Gadson contributed 10.

But May River didn’t have an answer for Pinewood guard Tariq Shabazz, who rained in 25 points, and Sam Graham scored 12 of his 14 on a quartet of second-half 3-pointers that helped the Panthers build a cushion and hold off the late charge.

Price Lenoir added 16 points, and Nashon Hudson had 11 for Pinewood, while Jakai Morrow chipped in eight off the bench for May River.

The Sharks (1-2) host Effingham County (Ga.) on Saturday.
