HSGBB: Sharks’ comeback falls short vs. Mustangs

A rough second quarter was too much to overcome for the May River girls on Saturday, as the Sharks suffered their first loss of the season, 43-34 to visiting South Effingham.

May River led by one after the first quarter before the Mustangs outscored the Sharks 20-7 in the second quarter to break it open. The Sharks closed within 35-30 going to the fourth but couldn’t finish the comeback.

Ari Bevans scored a team-high eight points for May River, while Addison Black added six, and Jordan Bigham and McKenna Swinton each had five. 

Laney Dobbs scored 13 to lead South Effingham.

May River (2-1) travels to Pinewood Prep on Tuesday.
