May River’s boys got off to a slow start at the offensive end and couldn’t dig out of the early hole in a 64-49 loss at Effingham County (Ga.) on Friday.
Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, and it was tied 8-8 after one quarter before the Rebels surged to a 27-17 halftime lead.
The Sharks started to get some shots to fall in the second half but couldn’t close the gap despite 21 points from James Layman, who drained three 3-pointers. Garvin Douglas added nine points for the Sharks, while Jason Epke-Bueso had eight, and Steffin Gadson contributed six.
The Sharks are back at home Saturday, hosting South Effingham (Ga.) at 3:30 p.m.
